Soheb Porbandarwala Claims WSOP Circuit Main Event Title at Harrah’s AC

Soheb Porbandarwala, a poker pro making a living mostly from online cash games, claimed his second WSOP Circuit gold ring last night after besting the field of the Main Event of the WSOP Circuit’s Harrah’s Atlantic City stop.

The player also received a first-place prize of $107,862, which became his career’s second largest cash. In addition, he secured a seat into the Global Casino Championship. The major poker tournament will be played in early August at Harrah’s Cherokee in North Caroline.

Porbandarwala, a 27-year-old family man hailing from Connecticut, bested 306 entries to scoop the title at Harrah’s AC. The player entered the event on Day 1B. He completed the starting flight with a below average stack, but a key pot, continued fast play, and great composure helped him build a solid stack and eventually outlast his opponents.

During ten-handed play, Porbandarwala suddenly found himself locked in an all-in confrontation against Joe Siracusa. Porbandarwala, who was also playing online at the same time, meant to fold at the table of the Main Event, but declared all in instead after he went all in online. The hand eventually played well for the player. Siracusa was eliminated in 10th place, while Porbandarwala entered the official nine-handed final table with 1.25 million in chips, good for 78 big blinds, and as the chip leader.

Porbandarwala’s Final Table and Heads-Up Run

Porbandarwala ran quite well during the final table stage of the tournament to eventually make it to heads-up against three-time gold ring winner Peter Vitantonio. The eventual winner was well ahead of his final opponent at the time their two-handed duel began.

The heads-up match actually began on Day 2 of the tournament and while the levels scheduled for the day were completed, the two finalists decided to battle it out for several more levels or until a winner was determined. The final day of action began with Porbandarwala holding the chip lead. The two players doubled through each other on several occasions throughout Day 3. Vitantonio even managed to grab the chip lead at one point but could not retain it for long.

Porbandarwala quickly regained control of most of the chips in play and never looked back from that moment on. On the final hand of the tournament, Vitantonio limped from the button and Porbandarwala checked. The [Js][9s][3h] arrived on the flop, which Porbandarwala checked-raised to 250,000. Vitantonio shoved for 1.4 million and Porbandarwala called putting his opponent at risk.

The eventual champion tabled [Jc][5h] to Vitantonio’s [Qs][10c]. The [4h] appeared on the turn and the [7c] ran out on the river to mark the end of the Main Event. Vitantonio, who was vying for his fourth WSOP Circuit gold ring, eventually scooped $66,693 for his runner-up finish.

As for Porbandarwala, he was ready to pose with his second gold ring. The player won his first piece from the series back in 2016 when he topped the field of a $580 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry event. The player deemed that victory very special as it occurred at his hometown casino – Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Porbandarwala also collected $124,456 back then, which has remained his career’s largest live cash to date.
